The devastating fires in Australia have caused catastrophic events in thousands of individuals’ lives. It is sad to see that so many people have to essentially start their lives all over again. Seeing the damage that it is doing to not only people, but the ecological system is putting more people on edge. Australia is a fantastic country with its vast businesses and interesting atmosphere. However, due to the fires, so many people and animals are struggling to survive.
The Fires Are Not Stopping!
The fires are not showing signs of stopping because of the consistent amount of drought and heat.
According to CNN, “At least 28 people have died nationwide, and in the state of New South Wales (NSW) alone, more than 3,000 homes have been destroyed or damaged. State and federal authorities are struggling to contain the massive blazes, even with firefighting assistance from other countries, including the United States.”
The sad part is that most of the fires have not been put out and they are still burning, which means that more homes and businesses are looking to be ruined.
What Area Are Being Attacked The Most?
Currently, New South Wales is the area most affected by the fires. The fire that is surrounding the area has already destroyed over two thousand homes. But that is only just one area. Victoria is yet another area that was hit the worst, causing over a million of acres to burn down and people evacuated to shelters seeking assistance.
BBC voiced, “The Australian capital Canberra – part of an administrative region surrounded by NSW – has seen some of the worst smoke pollutions, with air quality rated the third worst of all major global cities on 3 January, according to Swiss-based group AirVisual.”
So it’s not just homes that are touched and demolished due to this disaster. The fires did not just cause because of humans, although some were, a lot of them were created due to the high heat and lightning hitting the parched vegetation.
To view proof of a lot of the affected areas, view some satellite pictures on Earth Observatory, where they express, “Fires are burning so fiercely that they are lofting smoke to unusual heights. Nearly one-third of the island appears to have burned.”
Thousands of people are getting together to help, but it’s still not enough to manage the fires and help the people.
Forbes declared, “Michael Mann, Director of the Earth System Science Center at Pennsylvania State University, said, “If anything, 2019 saw even more profound extreme weather events around the world than , including wildfires from the Amazon through to the Arctic, devastating out-of-season, simultaneous wildfires in California and Australia, winter heatwaves and devastating superstorms. With each day now we are seemingly reminded of the cost of climate inaction in the form of ever-threatening climate change-spiked weather extremes.”
What About The Animals In Australia?
Billions of animals like koalas, bees, and honeyeaters are struggling to find resources and new ways to survive in the country.
WSJ articulated, “Australia’s bush fires are threatening the country’s unique wildlife—from koalas to native birds to bees—and researchers fear that some species are being pushed to the brink of extinction.”
This is putting the fear of an economic calamity at risk for not just Australia, but also the rest of the world. If one is of our world is hurting, the rest gets affected in some form or fashion. So it is our job to get this taken care of now before it gets worse.
The fires have killed a minimum of five hundred million animals, based on the ones found. The number is only increasing and getting worse as the fires continue to burn.
The USA concerned to the public, “Emergency airlifts, scorched koalas, hazardous air quality – wildfires raging across Australia have taken a devastating toll on the nation, and the blazes could be burning for months to come. The bushfires, which have been burning since September, have killed at least 25 people, destroyed 2,000 homes and killed an estimated 500 million animals. In all, about 15 million acres have burned across the country – an area roughly the size of West Virginia.”
So yes, the animals are hurting, the fires are still burning, and people are losing everything.

The Australian Academy Of Science commented, “Bushfires, along with other weather and climate challenges, pose complex and wide-ranging problems. Population growth, climate change, temperature extremes, droughts, storms, wind, and floods are intersecting in ways that are difficult to untangle and address.” And rather than calling for changing out individual politicians, the Academy calls for improved policies: “Everything, including urban planning; building standards; habitat restoration; biodiversity and species preservation; and land, water, and wildlife management will need careful and measured consideration.”
